What’s new in Joomla 6.2?
Joomla 6.2 is a new minor version. We’re bringing some exciting new features, security and code improvements. We’ve highlighted a bunch of features below. You can check the list of all merged features on our GitHub changes page.
Content Editing Upgrades (TinyMCE)
The TinyMCE editor is receiving multiple improvements to facilitate integration with Joomla!
- Media Manager integration: adding images and media has become easier with the updated picker that now opens the Joomla Media Manager.
- Link selector modal: new link-picker letting the article, contact and menu editor-xtd buttons insert links through a unified modal picker.
- Read More integration: The new Read More button provides a quicker way to insert article breaks.
- Joomla text filter used by default: TinyMCE now defers to Joomla's own text filter configuration instead of its own valid-elements defaults.
- TinyMCE updated: Untranslated buttons in the TinyMCE toolbar builder were fixed, and TinyMCE itself was updated.
Articles and Categories
- Separate image and figure classes: Article intro/full-text images now have independent CSS class fields for the image and its surrounding figure element providing more styling control.
- Subcategory images: can be shown in category lists and blogs for content, contacts, and newsfeeds.
- Category display with future-published articles: Fixes categories appearing empty when their articles are scheduled for future publication.
Modules
- Additional Login Module configuration options: New options let admins hide the “Forgot your password?” and “Forgot your username?” links without a template override.
- Deeper menu dropdowns: Fixes submenu toggling for nested menu levels, improving navigation through multi-level dropdowns in the standard menu layout.
Administrator
- Grouped Fancy Select search results: Search results now include their group name, making matches easier to identify (very useful in module positions).
- New backend Joomla! Help page: A complete overhaul of the Joomla Help! page to provide a design more aligned with the Atum admin template and improved navigation within the help pages.
Installation and Security
- Improved installation error handling: reports failures more precisely during the web installer.
- Security flag for extension updates: Developers can flag a release as a security update (severity None to Critical); flagged updates are highlighted in System -> Update -> Extensions and on the dashboard quick icon.
Generic XOAuth2 support for mail authentication: Instead of storing the password of the SMTP account, Joomla authorizes access through the mail provider. The provider returns a long-lived refresh token, which Joomla can later use to request short-lived access tokens for SMTP authentication. This is particularly relevant for services such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
